The Great Smokies Review is the digital literary journal of The Great Smokies Writing Program at UNC Asheville. Established in 2009, the journal was published at greatsmokiesreview.org until Spring 2026, where the archives remain.

GSR has moved to Substack, where we publish new fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, literary criticism, and author interviews on a rolling basis. Submissions are open year-round to past and current Great Smokies Writing Program students and instructors, with general submissions open to the public each January and July.

There is no fee to submit, and subscriptions are free.
